Junkyard Quote One, Week One

AOL headline: "Braille Burgers From Fast Food Chain Wimpy Let Blind People 'See' Food"

To advertise that all its locations "feature menus in Braille for the benefit of the visually impaired," the South African fast food chain Wimpy "decided to launch a viral marketing campaign that would appeal to blind people." Apparently, the campaign consisted of distributing fifteen hamburgers in Braille-adorned buns (yes, the chefs manipulated the dough to inscribe the message) to fifteen blind people, filming their reactions, and making it into a commercial.

I chose this . . . a) because it is surprising and b) because it seems a bit exploitative.

  1. We first eat with our eyes. You hear chefs say that all the time. Imagine beginning an essay that way. Then offer us a few particular examples, one of which could be this one from your junkyard. Great beginning. I know you're interested in the crossroads of food and literature, and you should most definitely exploit those predilections. Do you know Michael Pollan's writing on food? Botany of Desire, Why Food Matters?
